2014 Finds page 

 

OK for what it's worth. This page is my daily log of better finds. But just to let you know for every good item pictured here I dig hundreds of targets.

Bottle caps, pulltabs,can tops, aluminum foil and every other type of metal crap you can think of.

Chicago beaches have been beat up pretty bad, Lots of hunters and not many targets to go around. Decided to hit the road. Drove about an hour and a half to a beach I have never been to. Not many targets in the water but a silver ring and a Tiffany Heart and Key Charm and chain in the dry stuff. The water was stupid cold after the strong outbound winds yesterday.

Found another beach with some wash out and lots of iron.

3 hours digging lots of nails sone junk jewlry and

a 12.8 gram medalion looks good but no mark will check it tonight

10K medalion 12.8 grams

Hit the beach after work, 2 hunters in the water.

Found a near shore spot with some wash out, spent about 2 hours, got a dozen crusty coins lots of pull tabs

and a 14K broken hoop earring .4 gram

Moved to another beach and dug 3 targets in 40 minutes

ring is silver at least.

Hit the beach this morning for about 2 hours. Not lots of targets but there were a few washouts.

Got a 1954 silver rosie dime and a 14K wedding band. 3.5 grams

Meet-up at Montrose for the Kick-off of 2014 Detect-A-Palooza was not entirely smooth. LOL

Thanks god I decided not to do the Bar-B-Q, and opt for lunch at the Dock.

I arrived at 730am only to find 3,000 people had packed all three pay lots and the free parking areas were now

blocked off for a kids Triathelon. I posted our options and decided to try anyway,

some hunters walkes from Foster to Montrose for the meet up.

Hunted until about 1 and with thunder storms about an hour out

decided for an early lunch. we had 16 for lunch and several that stopped by to say hi!

Met up with the WGN crew for a shoot. After the airshow.

Lots of change in the dry, several hunters in the dry and in the water.

Saw a couple pieces of jewlery come up.

Airshow weekend. lots of hunters and I was at the firehouse on Saturday,

and got a late start, 7 am on sunday morning. Hit the water for a couple minutes not many targets

so worked the dry sand until the crouds started

Got off of work and headed back down to the dry sand. Lots of small targets, beaver tails and pulltabs,

little pieces of aluminum can. Managed 5 silver targets and some clad.

4 wheat pennies, a very crusty silver War nickel, 1950S rosie, 1942D and 1939 Mercury dimes.

Rectangular silver link from a bracelet 4.3 grams wendy charm and earring are both junk.

Also took a pic of all the crap I had to dig to get the goods.

Hit the dry sand for about 4 hours today, was surprised to get some oldies. 1943S war nickel, 2 buffalo nickels no date and 1935, 1953 Washington qtr, 1943 Mercury dime. Plus a silver toe ring and a silver earring. lots of old targets

Hit a beach with a nice wash out, lots of iron. coins but no Bling!

Hit 2 beaches today! big silver ring in the middle and about 8 fresh drop coins on the first.

2nd beach found a great wash out, 5 to 8 feet of beach washed out and it is all ankle deep water with rocks everywhere.

Got about 6 bucks in clad several wheat pennies and 2 silver rings. lots of iron in this spot,

I know there is yellow to come from here

Attended my annual Northwestern University Treasure hunting class.

Had 11- 4th through 6th graders for a day of playing with some of my finds from the last 30 years of hunting.

The kids have such a blast and are so excited to see and get to touch coins and artifacts up to 2000 years old.

Here we all are hanging out after 2 hours of detecting on the beach.
